Tom is a practicing family doctor and one of Ireland’s leading digital healthcare entrepreneurs. He has a strong track record of delivering many disruptive and innovative new primary healthcare services in Ireland to improve patient care. As a leading global advocate for digital health, he passionately believes in the use of technology to disrupt both traditional models of patient care and medical education to support those who need it most and at a cost that is affordable.
As CEO and Founder of iheed, a medical education technology company, he is stewarding the creation of next generation cloud-hosted mobile education solutions for family doctors, pharmacists, nurses and other community-based healthcare workers to improve patient care in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Americas. In this venture, he has successfully built and worked with a global network of Government Ministries and healthcare providers, as well as pharmaceutical, education, mobile, technology and donor organisations to develop new solutions. He has contributed significantly with leading research institutions to the gathering of research data supporting the improved impact on patient care of mobile education and its ability to deliver better value for money. He is a regular contributor and speaker at UN and other leading global events. Tom has also chaired a number of large-scale donor-funded international public-private partnerships in health worker education.
Tom was appointed by the Irish Health Minister to the Irish Health Research Board and has also held advisory positions on the Irish National Health Innovation Hub and with the Irish College Of General Practitioners, as well as supporting and mentoring a number of private healthcare technology companies and entrepreneurs. In his present clinical work, Tom supports the delivery of inhouse family doctor services to the staff of Google in their European headquarters in Dublin.
